* St. Charles

St Charles is the ninth largest city in the state of Missouri and lies in the northeastern section of the state and on the Missouri River. Its the third oldest city in the state and played a significant role in the United States westward expansion as a river port. It was considered the last "civilized" stop by the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1804. The city also served as the first Missouri capital from 1821 to 1826. With all that rich history, its only natural that The Riverfront and Main Street area in the St. Charles Historic District is a central gathering place and focal point for the community which features restored buildings housing shops, restaurants and offices. There are also several major festivals that take place throughout the year in this area. St Charles lies near the eastern end of the Katy Trail, a 225-mile long state park enjoyed by bikers and walkers which was adapted from railroad right of way. Major highways in this area are Interstate 70, Interstate 64, Missouri 370, Missouri 94 and Missouri 364.
